Having admired actress Indira Varma’s performances in ‘Bride and Prejudice’, ‘Game of Thrones’ and ‘Kama Sutra - A Tale of Love’, I read Indira would be appearing in the play 'Vertical Hour' at the Royal Court Theatre in London, January 2008.

I found a photo from a scene from ‘Kama Sutra’ to inspire my portrait and worked for over 30 hours to capture her character in that film.

On a very cold night I travelled to London and waited for her by the stage door of the theatre after the play.

When Indira appeared she kindly stopped to autograph my painting. She was a very friendly lady and shared a saucy joke with me about the painting.

I had a silver marker pen for her to sign with and the signature now shimmers in different colours as the light catches it.
