Jackie Stewart, 3 times World Champion in Formula 1 Motor Racing, gave a talk about his career at The Shelley Theatre in Milton Keynes in May 2009.

Rather than paint the obvious and depict him with a racing car, I decided to include some of his proud Scottish heritage in the painting and so painted a Highland stag behind him.

I worked for over 40 hours on the portrait, then travelled 130 miles up to Milton Keynes to meet him when he arrived for the talk.

He was very kind and friendly and chatted with me for a while and joked “You could have made me look younger!”.

He kindly autographed my portrait of him and posed for a lovely photo with me.
