I heard quite late that Johnny Depp was appearing at a premiere of the film ‘Alice in Wonderland’ in London. I worked around the clock to get the portrait finished within the few days I had before the event.

On the day, I left home at 5am and arrived in London at 9am and waited all day with the fans. But half an hour before his arrival, clouds filled the sky and it started to rain. Despite this, when Johnny arrived he still spent a couple of hours signing for fans in the rain. When he signed my portrait, the rain poured onto it and washed the signature away immediately. The remains of that first signature can still be seen on the portrait, in black on his head scarf.

I waited another year for Johnny to appear at a premiere again. This time, the premiere of ‘Pirates of the Caribbean 4’ was held indoors at the Westfield Shopping Centre in London.

I left home at 4am and arrived at the shopping centre at 7am and secured a place right next to where he would enter.

There were already many people there and Johnny wasn't due to arrive until 6pm!

I waited 11 hours with the crowd. At 6pm the black curtains opened and in walked Johnny to deafening screams.

He saw my portrait and came over to autograph it, despite his bodyguard pulling him away from the fans to take him over to the waiting media.

After his interviews, he then spent over an hour signing for hundreds of fans there. Although his bodyguard didn’t allow him to return to my section and I became the only person in that area to get his signature that day.

I have met him 4 times and each time he always spent hours signing autographs for fans. A very kind gesture indeed.
