The film premiere of the Batman movie "The Dark Knight", starring Michael Caine was held in Leicester Square, London in July 2008.

I worked for 30 hours to create this portrait of him over a period of 2 weeks and then travelled to London in the early hours of the day of the premiere.

There were huge crowds lining the red carpet, waiting to meet the stars. I waited with them for 6 hours for Michael to arrive.

I held my painting over the barrier to protect it from the crowds pushing behind me.

I tried to hold the painting in one hand and had my video camera hung around my chest hoping I could film the moment he signed it.

Luckily he saw me and came over to sign the portrait. He kindly signed my painting and I asked him “Please could I have a quick photo with you?”

but sadly, he replied "No there isn't enough time".
