My first of two portraits of the great actor Tom Cruise.

Over 30 hours of work at the canvas and then a 3 hour journey to London for the premiere of the film 'Valkyrie' in January 2009.

I arrived at Leicester Square at 9am, it was very cold day and there were already many fans there.

Wrapped up warm with a hot flask of soup, I waited all day until 5.30pm when Tom arrived.

He generously spent 2 hours signing autographs for all the fans there and chatting with everybody. 

He gave a wonderful reaction when he saw my painting and said:  "That's outstanding! Great work, congratulations"

it was thrilling to get such compliments from a legendary actor. He kindly autographed it and also took my business card.

It was worth waiting 9 hours in the freezing cold for this wonderful moment with Tom.
